ABSTRACT | ||
Siddheshwar Chattopadhyay's play 'Swargiyahasanam' is a unique and extra ordinary creation of modern Sanskrit drama. In this drama the real picture of society and politics is exposed. In this play, 'heaven' is not just amazing place, but also the symbol of human society. According to myth heaven is the place, where Gods lives there and they ruled the human society. The playwright has taken vivid satire against the abuse of power, inflection from ideal and morality. The political demoralization, personal interests and state’s injustice and post-independence violences of India are reflected in this play. He has also expressed the eternal nature of politics and the confliction between good and bad, justice and injustice in a philosophical context. So, 'Swargiyahasanam' is not only a document at time but also eternal political metaphor, which is still deeply pertinent in the contemporary context. | ||
