ABSTRACT | ||
Sage Rajnarayan Basu was one of the renowned persons among other great men in the middle stage of nineteenth century of Bengal. He was encouraged by his father to work for his country. His various articles, books like ‘Se Kal aar E Kal’, ‘Bangabhasa’, etc. proved his patriotism. He had supported the reform revolution of widow marriage by Vidyasagar. Rajnarayan Bose was a realistic and truth lover. He thought that European culture is destroying our Indian culture. He wants to create the format of Indian culture according to the idea of ancient societal culture. He thought that as we find an eternal truth in religion of India, hence we don’t need any change in the Indian culture. He shows that Gautama Buddha was able to change in Indian social culture; Sankaracharya, Ramananda, Kabir, Nanak, etc. also were able to change various culture, customs, moves etc. of Hindu society. He had also tried to make social changes through the publicity of Brahmavāda in Indian culture. He was influenced by the reading of Vedas, Upanishads and Western Philosophy. He has tried to free our nation and Hindu religion from Christian religion and culture. He feels that it is very necessary to remain a scriptural book of Hindu religion like other religions. In this regard, he wants to translate the language from Sanskrit to Bengali of all the Hindu or Brahma scriptures. He realizes that we have to purify our mind if we want to realize the God. It will be possible only through the self-restriction through the practice of Yoga. He thinks that which religion holds scientific explanation, philosophical truth, that religion must be established. We find an excellent mixture of Jnanayoga, Bhaktiyoga, Karmayoga in his religious thought. He advices us to follow the religion in every cases like education, society, politics, etc. Keywords: Religion, God, Brahmasamaj, Rajnarayan Basu, social revolution. |
