ABSTRACT | ||
During the 1920s and 1930s, alongside the dominant political ideologies of liberalism and socialism, a third ideology—fascism was emerged. This ideology, which fundamentally opposed to individual freedom and democratic values, fascism generated deep anxiety among supporters of democracy worldwide. Although fascist ideas influenced several countries across the world, their most profound impact was seen in Italy and Germany. Under the leadership of Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler, fascism in these nations introduced new concepts and terminology into modern political discourse. India, widely regarded as a democratic nation, has also exhibited certain fascist tendencies at various moments in its contemporary history, most notably during the Emergency imposed under Indira Gandhi’s leadership. This discussion further examines the impact of fascism on India, highlighting the early resistance it faced from Indian political leaders, while also exploring the contemporary manifestations of fascism in global politics. | ||
